Empowering Local Staff, Advancing Global Commitment

Local Staff International (LSI) is a global coalition dedicated to strengthening the rights, protection, and recognition of local staff who support humanitarian, development, diplomatic, civilian, and military missions worldwide. We work to ensure that those who serve alongside international actors are not left vulnerable when risk escalates or missions conclude.

LSI brings together advocates, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to address long-standing gaps in protection frameworks and institutional accountability. Through knowledge exchange, policy advocacy and research, and cross-sector collaboration, we advance practical standards and coordinated action that embed durable safeguards into mission planning and implementation.

Non-partisan and internationally focused, LSI promotes a future in which the safety, dignity, and well-being of local staff are treated as a shared responsibility — not an afterthought. By working collectively, we seek to strengthen global practice and ensure that the contributions of local staff are recognised and protected across all operational contexts.
